    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Each day, there were different presentations from members of various areas of the bank (plenty of opportunities to ask questions), often followed by networking sessions (with employees from Analyst-level to MD-level). Additionally, there were exercises each day (ranging from case studies/group exercises to simulations) to give one more of an interactive feel of the areas of the bank we had heard from. Lastly, there was plenty of information about J.P. Morgan's BRGs.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definitely developed my ability to really think critically and work cooperatively - the group exercises were a brilliant stepping stone for this, as everyone was super willing to get involved! Additionally, I definitely think 'networking'/public speaking skills were refined for me - there were many networking opportunities, so it was hard not to develop those skills! Lastly, because the 3 days were jam-packed, I definitely learned how to manage my time and my focus.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was eye-opening! There were many divisions within the bank that I hadn't even considered before going in, experiencing them and talking to relevant individuals about them. Also, during the presentations, there was certainly a focus to try and explain the business operation in a jargon-free way - it made it really easy to understand, and helped me to develop a good knowledge of the roles available, as well as what they entail. Overall, all parts of the programme helped with understanding the potential roles!

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture was great - all the employees I spoke to were very kind and willing to answer my questions. There was also a big emphasis put on the BRGs present within J.P. Morgan (including a networking session with members of these BRGs). So, you could really experience the culture in all parts of the programme (once again!) over the 3 days. It was evident that it this culture is present from Analyst-level to MD-level too!

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to J.P. Morgan
  • Really look into the culture and BRGs present at J.P. Morgan - some of them hold international events and collaborate on events with each other. If this strikes harmony with you, you definitely should apply and mention this in your application! Also, have a good think about what separates J.P. Morgan from other similar-esque sized banks - this is super important to mention too. Be yourself and showcase the transferable skills you have from societies at university/school!
