Explore what it's like to work in our business and hear first-hand about the responsibilities and workdays of everyone from Analysts to Managing Directors. Split into three days. The first of which explored the asset management section of the company with panel sessions exploring the daily work of analysts and associates and interactive Q&A. The second moved on to Global markets and finally investment banking on day three. The interactive sessions such as case studies were across the programme.
There were many skills i developed during the spring insight. The firts emphasis was on the concept of networking which i found extremelly valuable. As we participated in panel sessions exploring the daily work of analysts and associates and interactive Q&A we were able to discuss further any questions or comments we had about their role or industry. Another skill was communication and collaboration which came through during the group studies where we had to either discuss or discuss and present.
While initially set on another career path entirely, I was surprised to explore the range of potential roles in the different areas within Wholesale (Asset Management, Wealth Management, Investment Banking, Markets, Wholesale Payments and Global Corporate Banking). The most interesting part was the fact that there are so many roles which allign to a different skill set so there really is that feeling that there will be a role suited to your own particular set of skills.
The company culture was really quite surprising. While intially set on a different career path, it became easy to give into a range of myths which informed my preconception as the company and the sector cut-throat and brutal. The people really do make the company great, the one common consensus around the culture is the willingness of others, even those far more senior, to help. This idea that those who are becoming experts in their fields are still interesting in developing others is attractive.
I enjoyed the insight very much. The two main things which made me enjoy it was the people, both at the company and my peers on the insight, and also the opportunities to network. With regards to the first, this really made the experience because there were so many people who were forthcoming about their career mistakes or successes. With regards to the latter, it was really interesting to be part of such a driven group of like-minded individuals.
Yes
There are two main pieces of advice i would give to others applying to J.P Morgan. The first is tailored towards those who are sceptical that there would be a role for them at J.P Morgan or in the sector in general. There are so many initiatives surrounding diversity and inclusion. The second is somewhat related. It is to just go for it, even if you think that your degree is not suited, there are skills that relate for sure.
