Overview
It was three days long, on the first day we had four talks lasting an hour each. On the second we had 6 talks/activities lasting an hour each and on the last day we had 5 talks. They ranged from general talks about DLA Piper, Diversity & Inclusion, or the future of the legal industry to more personal and technical presentations surrounding DLA's pro bono network/scheme, their work in sustainability & resilience and recent business venture Aldergate.
Skills
I improved my litigation skills during the litigation simulation.
Business Insight
The careers team did a good job of speaking about the potential opportunities we could have after the scheme. They also provided a relatively good presentation surrounding CV & Application advice. There was a trainee panel as well, they answered questions relatively candidly. The best plan was surrounding DLA's people networks and push for equality and inclusion within the firm.
Culture
The general atmosphere was good, people were nice. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the whole experience. Everything was paid and taken care of, truly pampered. I would say that the scheme was at time monotonous, but that it had to be that way in order to cover the breadth of information which it did.
Yes
I would suggest that when writing about a commercial topic pick something that genuinely interests you, or something which relates to DLA. As for grades, DLA does not have any requirements and is accomodating regarding mitigating circumstances. Be yourself and highlight your strengths in the CV you provide (not longer than 2 pages!!!!!).
