Throughout my week at Savills, I shadowed a fixed graduate within the commercial valuation sector. I took part in helping to find comparable evidence for a team project. Whilst also helping to produce a report on investment loan valuation. Outside of the shadowing I would attend networking events set up by Savills in order to meet a wide variety of different people throughout the company. Also attending zoom calls with directors and new departments. Finally, with the help of my mentor, I was able to have a morning following around the sales team within Mayfair giving me a quick look into what this entailed.
This week at Savills, I have learnt many different skills. Most importantly I have gained more confidence with my interpersonal skills. As the networking events were a great opportunity for many to step out of their comfort zone and meet new people within interesting facts and willing to answer any questions. Another key skill that was learnt was the ability to work as a team. As I was set up with a mentor, this mentor was part of a team of 8 people. This help me to improve my team skills and showing an interest into everything they do. Whilst offering help wherever possible.
My time with Savills has given me a much wider knowledge on what the company offers. For example I learnt about the graduate scheme. This involves moving around and being able to try all new areas of the company which you would have never thought to try. With the many people I have spoken to throughout my time here, consistently everyone who took part in the graduate scheme would always have many positive comments to say. With never a bad word being said about it. Whilst also learning how good the A.P.C. help is that Savills offer. This can be reflected on the company having one of the highest pass rates throughout the U.K..
Being a student in their first year at university, coming into Savills felt very welcoming. Due to the mass amount of graduates who had just finished university. This led to many common grounds with many different types of people. This was also helped with the other 24 students who attended the insight week, many coming in not knowing anyone. This led to everyone being super friendly and approachable due to everyone wanting to make friends. A friendly atmosphere was helped with the one on one mentor. As this was someone who you could turn to and include you where possible. Making you feel included and not isolated when you first join.
This will be a week I will remember for the rest of my professional career. I found the week to be both informative and engaging. I felt right from the start, included throughout the week. All the different events that were set up for us were interesting and always increasing my knowledge of the built environment. The week also showed me the many different career paths that I can choose from once I have finished with my studies. Many of which I had never heard of, but have already started researching into more. Overall the week was amazing, I hope to be returning in the future.
Yes
Firstly, I would tell them to just go for the application, as many people hesitate when going outside their comfort zone or moving and trying new experiences. I would let people know that Savills are very welcoming and helpful with everything they offer. Finally, I would ensure that anyone applying comes in and is ready to take a positive and open attitude to try and learn new activities. Whilst also being ready to meet new people and increase their network.
