    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The summer internship job at EY was really interesting and gave me a chance to understand my job options. I really liked the work and the placement started with an intro event where I learnt about the firms values, community work and day to day job info. This was followed by a placement in the business in the Tax division I did some client work and solo learning assignments. There was lots of chance to learn and develop

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Definitely yes, in the Tax role I learnt a lot about the work a Tax professional does, and more about EY and future opportunities on the Grad scheme. This helped build my knowledge and convert to a senior permament role in the application process. It was great working with new people and I liked getting to know the other interns. All the people were friendly and made me feel like I was making a worthwhile difference

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes I took on a lot of responsibility during my summer role. I was given projects to work on by myself also some single learning assignments and team work. I was given lots of support and the teams around me helped answer my questions and encouraged me to ask lots of questions. I felt able to do the work because of the good support alongside the good level of responsibility afforded to me in the placement

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a huge amount of support and guidance during my internship. The work I was doing was challenging at times but the team around me helped me with questions and they explained to me the key tax principles and any harder tasks were made clear. I had a buddy contact who I could speak with also and we linked in often and this was helpful as well. The support I had was great

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • This was also very good. I liked working with different teams and meeting new people and and there was a good atmosphere between everyone. the firm was professional and sensible which wasn;t a big surprise, but also had lots of younger people and we were chatty and friendly during the work as well as in events around the side. The firm are big but I didn;t feel small. I would say this was a good area too

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • yes I enjoyed the placement in the Tax area and this is where I would want to start my career, the internship gave me this understanding and that is what I really wanted to get out of it. The induction event at the beginning was good and gave me helpful insight and I was given lots of help and support with people happy to answer questions all the time. The people were really nice who I worked with too

  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to EY
  • I wasnt sure which firm to apply to but having applied to EY and been on the placement I think it is a good place to apply to. I would give the advice to consider which area to work in because there were more openings in different areas which looked interesting too and more areas in the Graduate openings, which are worth thinking about too. I used the EY website and this was very good
