Overview
The summer internship involved lots of opportunities to work and meet new people, take on extra responsibility and really try to stand out to go on and secure a graduate opportunity. The main parts of my job was giving assurance on the financial statements and assessing risks. I was included in meetings with all levels of staff and at times, client contacts also which I wasnt expecting during my placement - it was a great experience
Skills
During the placement I learnt how the client operated, and what makes PWC a great place to work for my Graduate career ahead. There was a lot of insight on this and it reinforced where I want to work in the future and why. The main skills I demonstrated were numerous but in particular business and comms skills. The client and firm staff were great and I learnt so much how to speak and present myself well in a business setting
Responsibilities
Yes - absolutely - I was given a lot of responsibility during my internship. I was given lots of support and the people around me helped answer my questions and understand what I was doing and helped with questions. I was given projects to work on by myself and I enjoyed this. I was also working in team projects and producing valuable work which was being used in the signing off of financial statements which was impressive.
Support & Guidance
I was given a lot of support and guidance during my internship. The work I was doing was new to me and although I understood the basics ahead of starting about the nature of the job, everything was explained to me and complicated work areas were not daunting. This was very helpful and I was pleased with the amount of support I was given. It was important as I was nervous before starting but the support was strong
Culture
The culture and atmosphere at PWC is great !!! . There was a commorarderie between the interns which was great - I have made lots of friends in my teams and with the other new starters who I will look forward to joining with. the culture seemed to be generally really friendly and welcoming. It's a big firm and although the staff numbers are huge I felt like an important cog in the wheel in the work I completed
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my work at PWC and do not have a bad word to say at all. The induction event made me feel at ease and I was given lots of help and support from those around me, from the first day and onwards - In fact the emails I got before starting were also reassuring and helped me enjoy the experience and calm nerves! I would recommend the firm to others for an internship
Yes
look at the firm's website and social media pages and also the event pages on the pwc website and understand as much as possible about the company and the work done. I learnt a lot whilst doing the internship and it was important having some knowledge before starting. Do not worry about the size of the firm as I was made to feel important and wasnt given menial tasks to complete which I had feared!!
