    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As a Technology intern I was assigned a project to assess whether it would be beneficial for the Firm to use cloud monitoring tools. I was assigned a team and worked in an agile environment, so we had daily scrums where everyone could share their progress and blockers so that as a team we could brainstorm solutions. I had frequent meetings with my buddy on the team, my manager and other interns.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes lots! I have developed my confidence and my communication skills, particularly as this internship was virtual which meant having to communicate in a different way. I have also aquired a lot of new coding skills and languages, such as Git and Java.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given sole responsibilty of the project I was working on during my internship. This meant I developed some project management skills and had to be self-disciplined to organise what I needed to do and when. Although I was the only one working on the project I had a lot of support and assistance whenever I needed it and my colleagues were continually checking I was okay.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had a lot of support during my internship. Daily scrums meant that I could bring attention to any problems I was having with my team and we would work together to provide solutions. I had weekly 1-to-1s with my manager to discuss my progress and blockers. I was also assigned a lot of buddies/mentors who offered a lot of support and shared plenty of knowledge and HR offered a platform for support too.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was very people-focused. It was a very welcoming atmosphere and there was always a constant reminder of support and guidance. There were a lot of societies that people could join, even interns, and HR were very good at hosting events for all interns to network, not with just interns but with wider colleagues of the Firm. Everyone was happy to talk to everyone and it felt like a lovely place to work.
