Overview
I was in the Investment Banking Division, in the consumer retail team. During the 10-weeks program, the main activities were: - Gathering and synthesising financial and operating information about companies, industries and governments. - Creating and updating financial models. - Gathering market data to analyse trends and help value and price transactions. - Drafting presentations and memoranda for a wider audience within the Firm and the financial services industry. - Attending team discussions and client meetings.
Skills
yes Developed skills: - financial analysis, accounting and valuation - financial modelling New skills: - core investment banking skills to help support clients’ businesses - Understanding the financial flows of a wide range of domestic and international transactions - Learning how to conduct comprehensive and in-depth company and industry research - communication and interaction skills within team working
Responsibilities
yes, I was strictly in contact with the CFO and the staff of a company approaching the IPO stage. I was given very much responsibility both on the client's side and the realisation of slides/models.
Support & Guidance
A lot, striating from the training weeks at the beginning, then there was a continuous support from team members and in particular from my buddy, key in the learning process
Culture
I can talk about my team but I feel like everyone is super nice and available for help and clarifications. It is of course a tough job, everyone is very busy and work long hours but they can always find time for you. Also, I was able to develop real relationship and they were there to help me get in.
Your Impressions
Really really enjoyed. I do believe that I learned more in 10 weeks at Morgan Stanley than in 3 years at University. I enjoyed also my interns cohort and the other summer interns in my team, all very keen to help.
Yes
Make the most out of the experience and do not stress too much about interviews: calm is the first skill that an investment banker should develop
