Overview
During the scheme we attended multiple different talks from members of the firm giving us an insight into life at CMS. We also undertook group tasks such as a business simulation challenge, a client interview and an innovative ideas pitch.
Skills
I developed many skills. In particular my communication, team work and presentation skills. I also gained some more technical skills such as legal writing, how to conduct a client meeting and how to make a pitch.
Business Insight
We were fully informed about the opportunities within the firm and the types of things trainees can get involved with once at the firm. We also got talks from professionals in all of the core practice areas giving us an insight into the types of work done at CMS.
Culture
Despite being an online vacation scheme, I really felt that the friendly and inclusive culture of the firm came across during the vacation scheme. They ensures there was plenty of time to get to know fellow participants and encouraged us to have fun during the scheme.
Your Impressions
I thought the scheme was highly enjoyable and would definitely recommend it. It was an invaluable experience and I was very grateful to have the opportunity to take part.
Yes
My main tip would be to really research and get to know the firm before you apply as this will help you tailor your application to the firm specifically. I would also encourage people to take time on their application to ensure it is free of any small errors but do not leave it till just before the deadline as CMS tend to do rolling applications.
