I took on ad hoc tasks given to me by team members. Tasks included proofreading, research and drafting. I was also asked to present some of my research at the end of the week. Additionally, there were various talks and sessions about Simmons & Simmons and the various practice groups the firm has.
Developed skills in presenting, research and collaborative working (using co-authoring technology).
The scheme provided a useful and detailed insight into the business. A particular highlight was Ben McGuire’s session on Simmons & Simmons Solutions business where there was a demonstration of some high-tech tools that Simmons maintains, sells and uses. Also valuable was the insight into life as a trainee and your assigned trainee buddy is invaluable in this respect. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.
Very good, did not have any negative interactions. All members of the team made time to interact with vacation schemers, even more difficult considering the scheme was virtual. We also had informal discussions with other partners from outside our assigned groups which offered further insight and were much appreciated.
Very enjoyable scheme (considering it was virtual!). Grad recruitment made an effort with two virtual socials in a week. The work was engaging and enjoyable and felt valuable and valued by the team. The team were very friendly and interactions were always a pleasure!
Yes
Research the firm and it’s sectors in a lot of detail before applying. Also be clear and confident on some “typical” interview/application questions e.g. why law, why Simmons etc. Be friendly and outgoing to everyone you meet and offer your assistance enthusiastically whenever you can!
