Before school, break, lunch and after-school duty greeting the children and getting to know them. 1-1 mentoring with a designated list of pupils delivering academic and emotional support. Supporting the teacher in English and Maths lessons that your pupils are in. Running form time, lunch and after-school clubs like Debate Club. Helping the pastoral team with attendance - by ringing home parents and chasing up registers.
Through the LDD day each week my leadership, creativity, teamwork, speaking, listening and problem solving skills have been developed. By working in a team of 5 in School my teamwork skills improved a lot. My confidence from the start of the year to the end improved the most. My speaking skills were developed through giving presentations - something I previously wasn't confidence on before City Year.
We were responsible for running numerous clubs and interventions and had full control over how we would conduct the 1-1 mentoring.
So much support and guidance was given from the impact officer who is with you 2/4 days - they're always there to give any advice and answer any questions you have. In School there is so much support from staff and your point of contact.
The company culture was great and every Monday we would see the other teams virtually/in person. Sometimes we would see all the cohorts which was good. All the staff are friendly and supportive.
I really enjoyed my placement experience. I gained so much valuable experience that improved my confidence so much. Numerous transferable skills were gained and developed further which is going to be useful in graduate roles.
