    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

    • I assisted scientists with their research throughout the company. I collaborated with other AstraZeneca teams, including a team in Sweden, to discuss projects and learn from them. However, my key role was working on an independent project to establish a particular assay to assist early-stage drug discovery projects.

    • I have developed critical thinking, analytical and a variety of other practical research skills . This placement allowed me to develop a plethora of scientific techniques that will help me in my career as a research scientist.

    • Yes, I was given lots of responsibility as I was tasked with an independent research project. I had help from my supervisor and my immediate team when I needed it.

    • I received lots of support and guidance during my internship and from a variety of people including; my immediate supervisor, team leader, members of my team and other members of the department.

    • The company had a very inclusive atmosphere. It was a very fast-paced environment with high expectations on work turnover.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca

    • At interview, explain your thinking when answering technical questions. Even if you get the answer wrong explain your train of thought as this will show the interviewer whether you were on the right lines. During the placement, do not be scared to ask for help from anyone! Everyone was super friendly and willing to help with almost any experiment.
