    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The role is a combination of training and day to day project managing tasks. Commercial training are delivered by Hemsley Fraser, track safety training are delivered by Intertrain and project manager training are delivered by Association Of Project Management (APM). Project Managering day to day work will vary depending on which placements you take on. Although placements do varies, the responsibilities you will take on will be brief to you once you start. You will then take ownership of these task with your line manager assisting you when required.

  • Leadership of teams and my ability to allocate tasks effectively. Interfacing between stakeholders on projects. Communication between different level of the project team.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • During the course of my placement I was given responsibility based on what I was able to handle at the time. When I was managing the design scope of a project, the running of the project was left to me with little interest from our project sponsors. This was great because I was able to work with my team and solve problems. This was the same with all my other placements.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Support was readily available whenever I needed it during the course of my placement. This varied from support from site team, design team and management team. Everyone was always a phone call away even for small questions which was great. The large majority of my placements was working from home therefore calls was my main form of communication.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture is overall very inclusive and promotes ownership of work. Leadership teams provides direction of projects and delivery teams would see to it the scope of work is completed. We have cultivated a culture of openness and offering feedback continuously in meetings without feeling at threat of being ridicule.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • My placements have been great so far and there is more to go. The leadership team takes personal interest in what I’m doing and getting on with which gives me pride when I’m carrying out work for the team.

  • Siemens operate well because of the great individual running the company. As well as competence, come to the interview with your best self, be present and active.
