    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working closely within the Creative and Campaign team and across a number of large sale and cultural projects including leading the creative on an EMEA Region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Sale and assisting in the art direction and brand positioning for International Women’s Day 2021. I also took lead on branding and repositioning our customer service team both internally and publicly. I spent time working across concept, shoot, design, and artwork.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • On a practical level, I developed skills in concepting, presenting and furthered my software capabilities. I learnt how to collaborate with multiple Creatives from different specialisms to realize our concepts and keep a coherent campaign.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, lots. I was trusted on an internal re-branding project as well as leading creative on an EMEA Region sale. A lot of trust was given by the Senior Creatives which made me, and my input feel valued.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The creative team supported me from day one with regular catch-ups I always felt listened to and guided. I checked in with my manager once a week and would discuss my progression for the following week. Support from the wider brand and the intern development programme allowed me to develop softer business skills and learn how to apply these to my day-to-day working. Nobody was ever too busy for a chat, which furthered my feelings of being valued by the team and wider business

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Gymshark have set the bar high for any future employers. Despite the struggles we’ve all faced this past year, a truly innovative, transparent and creative environment has been cultivated and our wellbeing has always been put first, just like any family would. The strong company values aren’t just tokenism but actioned daily all the way from the Chiefs down to Interns like me; I really felt a part of something bigger. Plenty of employee rewards and incentives made WFH a lot easier and employee mental health was at the forefront of the People teams efforts. The brand although it has a hierarchy, didn't feel like anybody was unapproachable. If you wanted to speak to the Chiefs you could whether over Slack or in the restaurant over lunch.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • The experience was fantastic. Not only did the scope of my role allow me to explore different areas of a creative career but I’ve learnt how to effectively work within a business, approach creative briefs and deliver a result. I’ve felt the energy and rate of company growth, even when working at home and most importantly felt valued as an Intern, I was challenged and guided by the team.
