Overview
During the first two days in April, we heard from Partners about the impact of ESG, Technology and AI on Commercial Law, completed a banking session on the timeline of a transaction, and had a session on project finance, entailing the importance of ESG considerations when advising major International Banks. In September, we visited the offices in London, and gained an invaluable insight into the application process, and learned about various diversity initiatives.
Skills
I developed my networking skills through talking to various associates and fellow First Year Schemers, and gained valuable insight into how to deal with the case study interview.
Business Insight
It was very informative to hear from various different associates and partners about their work and experience in their own respective departments, and it highlighted to me the areas which I would be excited to work in. These included Corporate Crime, Employment and Banking.
Culture
After hearing from Allen and Overy's Trainee Social Liaison Committee, the Diversity and Inclusion Specialist, and the Mental health and Wellbeing Committee, it was clear that whilst Allen and Overy had a high-performance culture, it is also a genuinely friendly and supportive firm. This was reinforced by my visit to the firm where everyone I spoke to seemed genuinely eager to give advice, and all spoke about their colleges with the utmost respect.
Your Impressions
The insight programme was highly enjoyable, everyone who spoke to us was very engaged in providing us with as much information and advice as they could. No questions were left unanswered, and we were throughly catered for, and had a drinks scheduled for the end of the night. This was an excellent way to end the day and discuss future plans.
