Overview
On my first rotation, I assisted the desk analysts to analyze the credit quality of distressed issuers through conducting fundamental credit analysis and recovery analysis. The second rotation included idea generation across a spectrum of credit products. Day-to-day tasks include using micorsoft excel and networking with seniors in the bank to gain a more comprehensive insight into what Deutsche Bank has to offer.
Skills
The internship enabled me to develop a greater sense of confidence. Through the vasts amount of networking, I was able to familiarize myself by talking to seniors, thus improving my confidence and communication skills. Moreover, I have further honed my analytical skills and the ability to articulate my ideas better given the countless opportunities to present trade ideas in front of seniors.
Responsibilities
On the distressed desk, I was given a decent amount of responsibility given the tasks handed were related to the specific projects and deals the team was engaged in. Contrarily, on the sales desk, my tasks were mainly generating and presenting trade ideas to the team. Although not many of them were implemented, I still learned a lot about each product I pitched and honed on my ability to articulate my thoughts.
Support & Guidance
The internship program was designed perfectly to assist and fulfill the needs of interns. The program champion and buddy system helped me tremendously get through any uncertain times. Moreover, desk managers were pretty supportive as they would take time out of their day to check on interns and teach us new concepts within financial markets. Overall, everyone I met at Deutsche Bank was super approachable and helpful, which is a testament to their supportive culture.
Culture
Like I mentioned, Deutsche Bank exudes a very supportive and friendly atmosphere. Everyone that I have networked with was willing to take time out of their day to talk and provide good advice to me. Moreover, they would also recommend any of their useful contacts to get in touch with me, which was how I was able to expand my network significantly around the bank.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the internship a lot. Not only was I able to learn a lot about the culture and industry, but was also able to engage in activities with colleagues outside of the office, which made the overall experience enjoyable.
Yes
Don't stress too much on mastering the technical questions as the most important characteristic is personality and attitude to learning.
