Shadowing a mentor within the Asset and Wealth Management (AWM) team in the Financial Services Tax team. I had the opportunity to sit in on client meetings, ask questions about the type of work that is completed as well as network with a variety of employees across various teams within the department, including senior managers and directors.
I have learnt how to communicate effectively with a variety of people including members of senior management teams. I have improved my confidence in asking questions when I do not understand something in particular. I have improved my awareness within the tax industry of what type of work there is and the different types of tax that I can go into in the future.
I was exposed to numerous teams and departments within the tax line of service, some of which I had never heard of before. I gained lots of valuable advice about future career progression and potential roles that could suit my skillset going forward.
Everyone was always willing to help and give advice, very friendly and supportive. It was clear that the company values its people and there is always support available - no question is a silly one.
This insight has been so valuable, I loved every minute of it! I now definitely want to pursue a career in the tax line of service as the exposure to the different teams, connections and opportunities available has been invaluable and cemented my interest in this area of professional services.
