    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Supporting the Talent team, both Talent Development and Talent Acquisition, with numerous projects. Coordinating intern projects which involve CSR, fundraising and working to achieve some of the UN development goals. Managing our LMS platform(s) to aid the development of our talent and showcasing content in our weekly newsletter. Working closely with internal communications on multiple projects.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed my communication skills, as well as my confidence and general corporate experience. I reached out to a range of individuals across the company in different locations in order to learn more about them and their roles; this helped grow my confidence and knowledge enormously.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a good amount of responsibility during my placement and when I didn’t feel pushed enough, I would reach out to ask for more challenges. I worked well in a team and was given a great amount of independence with my work too. My team trusted me with work and allowed me to work on my own projects which helped me develop my confidence.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • We had our line manager, our teams, an emerging talent manager, mentors and general support from the intern panel and other individuals in the company. There was so much support provided and we could reach out for help whenever we needed it. In terms of guidance, the tasks set were always clear and there was never any fear to ask again what the task was.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company and general atmosphere was supportive and friendly. Everyone wants to help you develop and set you challenges. We had meet and greets with members of the senior team and there was open communication with everyone in the company with monthly all company calls where the CEO spoke openly about aspects of the company. We could reach out to anyone in the company and they would be happy to talk and give guidance.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I adored my placement at Travelport. I look forward to returning in the future. My team were incredible and I worked with so many people from different departments and everyone was friendly and I didn’t feel like an intern, I was an employee and I was given meaningful tasks that I put all my effort into. If anyone is considering a placement year, go for it!!! Apply for a placement at Travelport!!! :)

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Travelport
  • Be completely yourself on your application. They want to be a great match for you and you for them. There is no point pretending to be someone else. Make sure you read the job advert fully - Travelport are looking for candidates going into their third year (this should be clear on your CV).
