    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the virtual experience and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The experience gave an overall insight into Natwest group including its functions, values, principles and culture. Each day finished around midday and every morning began with an overview of each key principle: learning, business and climate. The days then varied with graduate and employee networking, a look into employee networks and exclusive sessions based on the business sector you applied for. There was also a deep dive into the specific capabilities unique to Natwest and what they mean and how to demonstrate them. Finally there was a session into the application and assessment centre process.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The pitching session was great for learning how to structure a pitch as there was a checklist of things to include. There was an opportunity to practice pitching so you could develop presentation skills. There was a focus on interaction with other interns and even the employees and graduate and this helped me develop my networking skills and learn what skills I should focus on . The whole application process was a good test for numerical skills and non-verbal reasoning.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Natwest Group took us through all the roles available for students with the internships and grad schemes. It was interesting to be placed in a specific area as I could really understand what was required of the role and the day to day operations in the role. There were so many in depth presentations of the business and I believe I saw a holistic view of what the business offers for students, graduates and all employees.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture of the Natwest group was very inclusive and cherished diversity. I was made aware of this from all the employee networks that are available as they focus on so many different aspects from gender to race to families. It was apparent that Natwest wants employees and businesses in general to do well as they have so many training opportunities. Finally the capabilities outlined the qualities that many employees hold and including innovation but also trust and connectedness shows the positive company culture.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the virtual experience as the Natwest group really wanted to give us a detailed insight into Natwest and catered and tailored to me as a student. The days were from morning to midday and there were breaks in between sessions. All the employees were very passionate and friendly as they were really helping us get to know their role and the company. Additionally, the Early Talent team were very helpful in answering all questions and the portal was useful for communication and creating structure for the week. It was well planned and the company really valued us as students.

  • 7. Would you recommend NatWest Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group
  • I would recommend having a close look into their 5 capabilities and much of the interview is based around these. Practice numerical skills and look on test prep websites to help you with the tests. There is some non-verbal test material so practice some online and the tests are timed so keep that in mind. Use the STAR technique for your video interview as this can help for structure and keep natural eye contact and smiling when you're speaking. As always practice will help.
