    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Each day involved listening to speakers from within the firm giving insight into different practice areas, as well as interactive sessions with representatives from the firm's networking societies. Further, we also had to complete tasks/ projects either individually or in groups, as well as reflect on each day considering what we learned and what interested us.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Throughout the scheme, I was able to develop my virtual networking skills, my teamwork abilities during the assigned projects and the ability to think critically about the firm's position globally and the best ways to provide client service in an evolving tech sector.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was extremely interesting to learn more about CC as a business. Talks with clients, as well as partners, emphasised the importance of excellent client service as the basis for CC's continued success. The consideration of career prospects and potential roles within CC was implicit in the variety of speakers from different practice areas, from M&A to pro bono.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture surprisingly shone through despite the scheme being virtual. Emphasis was placed on diversity initiatives run by the firm, as well as the community outreach and pro bono opportunities available to all trainees and solicitors. For example, the work by the firm in Bethnal Green supporting domestic violence victims made me see CC in a different light.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Clifford Chance
  • Attend lots of CC events beforehand - by engaging with the firm prior to making an application, your understanding of what makes CC different will really shine through. Do not rush the application - applicants are not considered on a rolling basis so take your time with the personal statement. Be friendly and enthusiastic in the interview - people skills are so important in this profession, as well as people who are highly self-motivated.
