  • I have significantly developed my skill in using various bits of software including Excel, Outlook, and other Actuarial programmes, I have also improved my ability to network, to communicate regularly with colleagues, to convey complex ideas, to manage my own time and prioritise work. I have learned how to use various functions in Microsoft Teams in order to effectively host meetings and deliver a social event.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given responsibility for my own work straightaway and had to ensure that work was turned around by deadlines, some of which were quite short-notice and other tasks were dependent on what I was doing. I was involved in projects from an early stage and had to carry out work in order for the projects to progress.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had a range of different people I could speak to if I needed help or support during my internship such as my intern manager, my unit manager, my buddy, the other interns, the training coordinators and other junior consultants. Everyone was very friendly and open to helping or explaining technical work in more detail if I needed that - regardless of their seniority.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture was one of the most attractive parts of the job, there were multiple events that I had the option to attend such as office brunches, going out to lunch, attending an intern social event, meet and greets with senior members of staff and arranging for me to go into the office to experience working there. There were volunteering opportunities and the chance to get involved with various networks.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • The internship is genuinely one of the best experiences I have had. The team were very supportive and friendly and I didn't feel like an inexperienced intern, I felt like a valued and helpful colleague. I only had positive expectations before starting and they were exceeded. I've learned a lot and have come away with a lot more skills, pride in myself and a lot of confidence. I would definitely go back.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to WTW
  • Go for it! The application process is very smooth, well communicated and not too intimidating. WTW accept people from different backgrounds so don't be discouraged if you don't think you have enough maths or business knowledge. I was inspired to join by the friendly and relaxed environment and the variety of work and progression opportunities. Day one is mostly talks, but best to have your IT setup a week or two beforehand.
