  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Also involved working on a weekly project ranging from calculations to presentations. Daily coffee calls to meet other members of the firm and team to find out more about the different roles within the company. We are also involved in training sessions from current graduates to learn the basics needed to complete client work.

  • Used existing skills in excel and applied them into a financial setting. Also learnt new skills in excel and used these in client work. Use of Microsoft teams in a work setting. Learnt to use LCP in house software for valuations and producing figures. Developed skills on team work and communication by interacting with people in a work setting and preparing work to be delivered to clients. Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Given guided responsibility. Typically given training to gain the skills needed to complete a project and then gone onto work through some exercises with a mentor before taking on chargeable client work. The internship is well structured to give interns confidence before taking on responsibility whilst also giving interns a good insight into the work of an actuary and what the job looks like. Took on more and more responsibility as the internship went on.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • In the Internship we were assigned to one of the actuarial teams. Within this team we were assigned a buddy who is in the first year of the company who was responsible for making sure we were happy and supported in the tasks we were given. For each project completed we were also assigned a mentor who helped to point us in the right direction if we got stuck. Everyone in the team even senior consultants were keen to help.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture at LCP is one of LCPs greatest assets. Everyone is really friendly and creates a very supportive and healthy atmosphere. There are lots of coffee calls and well being groups and activites. The atmosphere was great with flexible working times and an emphasis on doing activity outside of work and looking after yourself. We had a weekly social with either new graduates or the team that we were working in which was a great way to get to know other people and more about the company.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have really enjoyed the actuarial internship. It has been a great experience and i think LCP have dealt really well with the internship being online to help us feel included and meet others. It has also been great to learn the new skills and put these skills into practise through project work and client work. I also feel like i have gained really valuable experience that will help me to make future career decisions.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Lane Clark & Peacock
  • I would encourage people to apply to LCP. I would advise people applying to LCP to prepare well and do lots of research for interviews and assessment centers. When at LCP ask as many questions as you can and talk to people about there work and experience within the actuarial field. The internship experience at LCP is really positive and the application process is really straightforward and everyone is really friendly and helpful and wants you to succeed.
