    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I met with my line manager every morning to discuss projects and the day's taskings. I then would attend 2/3 meetings throughout the day, and in between I would complete my work and conduct training. The day was roughly 9am-5pm every day after the 3-week orientation.

  • I developed my understanding of market risk technology, alongside working with SQL and Python. I continued excellent communication by regularly updating my team about my progress.

  • I was pretty much left to work autonomously, but there was a lot of support available if I was stuck or struggling with the workload/content.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The team manager held teaching sessions to aid my understanding of banking and finance in general. I met all of my team individually at the start of the internship. I was also assigned a buddy and a mentor to ensure I had a lot of people to support me. I met with my line manager every day to ensure that I was doing well.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone was very welcoming and helpful. Even people who weren't in my team were willing to take half an hour out of their day to speak to me about their job and experience of the bank. There were lots of events put on to meet the executive team, and to socialise and work with other networking groups and other interns.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Due to the nature of the team I was in, there never felt like there was enough work to do. I found myself constantly waiting for people to reply to my emails. All of the people were great and the company was very inclusive and supportive.
