    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working with the anti-infectives marketing team, as well as external stakeholders such as creative agencies, to support with the development and approval of materials in line with key brand initiatives. Day to day role would involve 2-3 meetings (e.g. status calls for projects, catch-up with team, training sessions), replying to and sending emails about various projects and otherwise working independently to deliver projects on time.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • My manager provided me with the opportunity to centre my work around projects that would help to achieve my personal development goals over the year. I was able to develop my presentation skills through presenting in the work experience programme, and delivering bimonthly presentations to my team. My written communication and time-management skills have improved also.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • During the first few months, there was a fair amount of training to complete. However, once this was complete, I was given increasing responsibility in terms of the projects I was working on over the year. The team was always supportive and happy to jump on a call to answer any questions throughout.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • At the start (first 3 months), I was a assigned a buddy with whom I had a weekly call to run through any questions I had from the previous week. I had weekly meetings with my manager to stay on track with projects and we also had biweekly team meetings where we would reflect on our wellbeing and energy to ensure everyone felt supported within the team.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Though my placement ended up being virtual, I feel that my team and Pfizer as a whole ensured that as placement students, we really could make the most of the situation. I feel that I would have gained more from the year had it not been virtual, but overall I really enjoyed my experience. I believe I have made valuable contributions to my team and have gained valuable insight into the pharmaceutical industry.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Pfizer
  • When applying to any company I think it's important to ensure their values and purpose align with your own - if this is the case, it will really shine through when you go to interview/an assessment centre. Also take the time to try and understand what the role you're applying to involves and how it fits into the business - you can then understand if the role will be a good fit for you.
