    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I work with the red meat team and the wider MFPE team. This involves market research, analyzing customer data, looking at forecast models, meeting with suppliers and forming supplier relationships. I also work closely with my team and assist them with anything they may need. I sit in on meetings to understand the landscape of fresh produce and red meat specifically.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I've built my presentation skills online, I've been able to hone in on my team work and team building skills and I've learnt how to navigate supplier relationships. I've also gotten a better understanding of forecast models as well as deeper knowledge of the MFPE sphere, especially cost analysis through my intern group project.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given quite a bit of responsibility. I got to work on two important projects, both of which would help to make key decisions about the future of certain aspects in the MFPE sphere, and required extensive recommendations as well as further steps. I got to personally work with suppliers as well, which was a huge responsibility, as I was representing Tesco in all those interactions.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I got quite a lot of support and guidance. My line manager and team always made themselves available to me when I needed help, and I also got assistance and guidance from other members of the MFPE team. I was also able to develop a strong mentor-mentee relationship with my mentor, and felt as though I really connected with everyone that I met within the business.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture and atmosphere was really great. Although the internship was online, I felt really included by my team and everyone I met throughout the business was always kind, helpful, personable and above all, just really good people. There were a lot of social activities put on via MS Teams, and we got to work on an optional diversity project that I chose to do, and a charity challenge with the other interns.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship. The work was challenging, but great for an intern to be able to work on. My team was so nice and just very helpful. Everyone in the company was lovely too, and the atmosphere is quite laid-back. Tesco understands people even in their own company, which I really appreciated. I didn't know what to expect coming in, but everything's been so great. I think I'd go back.

  • 7. Would you recommend Tesco plc to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Tesco plc
  • Just be yourself. Tesco really likes individualistic people, and people that can bring something to the table. That's one thing to always remember when it comes to working with Tesco, and something I wish I would've known. When you come into it with positivity, good ideas and the confidence to work hard and help implement change, it's going to go really well.
