There were talks organised for everybody on the summer scheme across the UK, to give an insight and introduction to each area of Savills. There were also two networking sessions organised. Specific to the team, I completed a variety of tasks for the planning team, conducting research where required and undertaking various site appraisals/assessments. I also attended team meetings where appropriate.
I have gained a practical understanding of the tasks completed in planning, and the use of various levels of policy documents. I have also developed my communication skills, especially in a working office and team environment.
The departmental overview talks were highly insightful and provided in-depth overviews of all areas of the business. There were also opportunities to ask questions and query specifics with those running the talks and others in the office.
Very inviting, despite there being some level of formality, and I always felt like I could ask anybody questions, even if I had not spoken to them before. Good community feel across the team, office and wider company.
I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and appreciated the effort put in to make the experience worthwhile. Everybody was very welcoming, which in addition to the work itself being enjoyable and interesting, ensured that the overall experience was extremely positive.
Yes
It is important to really understand the culture of the company, on top of the business area you apply for, as this is just as important.
