    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role is assisting the Risk IT department in dealing with the issues/backlog. At the moment I've been working in web development using JavaScript and Vue.js to develop a learning application for HSBC employees. My day-to-day involves meetings with managers and colleagues as well as stand-ups and show and tell presentations. As part of the intern cohort I also attend talks about various departments within HSBC.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt a tremendous amount during my internship. Prior to working I had little coding experience, however since working here I have learnt some Python, SQL, HTML, Vue.Js and JavaScript. I have been able to apply these languages to various projects during my time here. I have also become familiar with Quasar Framework as well as data studios.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility as us interns were allowed to work on real projects and deal with the actual backlog that employees have to deal with. Our changes and developments were passed into production and were saved showing that our work was valuable to HSBC and thus we had a great deal of responsibility.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support and guidance. Coming from limiting computing background, it was very easy to book calls with various people in the department to get help with certain languages. I also had a GradCoach who gave me tips and advice in our weekly meetings.
