    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I work within GBS in the UK People Operations Team and manage a large number of business controls and processes. I perform invaluable operations tasks and assist GBS practitioners, this involves working and communicating with a wide range of key stakeholders like Executives, HR and Recruitment. The processes I manage are New Joiner Inductions, Maintaining Distribution Lists, Automatic Security Operations, Leavers, Dealboard etc

  • Yes, I was given as much responsibility as anyone else at IBM. You are not treated less than because you are an intern so I worked with a whole range of people from interns to executives to senior members of the leadership team.

  • I always felt supported throughout my placement year as I had a task manager, foundation manager and mentors who I could reach out to at any time if I needed help or advice on guidance in anything like developing further skills, shadowing etc

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I was very impressed by the company culture, everyone is so welcoming and nice and happy to answer any questions if you have them. I was happy to see that Diversity and Inclusion is also at the forefront and there were many communities to join to bring people together from all different backgrounds.

  • I really enjoyed my placement year as I took part in so many different initiatives that not only grew my skills and knowledge but also my network. There was always so many different opportunities that I could take part in varying from a whole range of topics.

  • I would say do your background research on IBM to ensure it's the best company for you and that it aligns with you and your values. Always be willing to learn and grow as you will have so many opporuntities at IBM so make sure you get out of your comfort zone and make the most of it!
