    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Tasks were given at the start of the week for each seat. We had an opportunity to complete these independently at our own pace as well as ask for feedback. We were invited to meet other members of the team through 'virtual coffees' or team meetings. The cohort also attended workshops in the firm's insurance and commercial practice areas as well as Diversity and Inclusion and Learning and Development.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I quickly developed networking and professional interpersonal skills throughout the scheme through my interactions with firm members where we either discussed our personal journeys into law or specific questions about exciting developments in their practice area.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • The summer scheme gave me a much better indicator of how law firms work as a business. For example, how firms win or retain clients, how it might restructure itself to cope with new client demand and how it might market itself to remain profitable.

  • Loved my 2 weeks with RPC - the scheme surpassed my expectations. It was a tiring experience but purely because it seemed all participants got so much out of the scheme and enjoyed it.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RPC
  • Be yourself - the firm seems to be looking for friendly people who would fit well into their existing teams. Be inquisitive - ask questions from your own research or building on from what people have already talked to you about. The firm wants trainees who are genuinely excited by what it does. Get stuck in - talk to your fellow cohort, those running workshops, arrange coffees with those within the firm who you find interesting.
