My role has been very varied…it is so much more than just designing weather symbols like you might think! I’ve had the opportunity to input my fresh ideas to a wide range of projects, such as managing the content for the launch of the Met Office book, to working on an infographic to advise scientists on how to present climate information to the public.
My confidence has grown, my creative skills enhanced and personal skills skyrocketed, which will be vital to any job I go for in the future. I have significantly developed my animation skills, my leadership skills and also my ability to manage projects.
I have been trusted to take ownership of projects, with my line manager regularly checking in to make sure that I don’t feel overwhelmed. Responsibility will come if you want to throw yourself into the placement, however it is in no way forced upon you.
The support I have received has been above and beyond what I’d have expected. My line manager is always just a message away and I work amongst a very approachable and supportive team, who are always happy to help and answer any questions.
It’s a super place to work, where ideas are valued, hard work is rewarded and your well-being is paramount. The culture is welcoming and positive, even in a virtual world, where I have felt supported and part of an incredibly, talented team.
I have absolutely loved my experience on placement at the Met Office and truly believe it has been a huge stepping-stone in my development. I have enjoyed being able to get involved with a diverse range of projects and the support has been exceptional.
