Overview
My primary role is working on my project which involves creating a headcount tracker for GCS international that can updated on a monthly basis. This involves collating various data sources and contacting various different business units to ensure the data is up to date etc.
Skills
I have learnt a tremendous amount. I have firstly developed my social skills enormously as it pushed my out my comfort zone; constantly meeting so many employees from various divisions. Furthermore, I feel as though my excel skills have improved dramatically as well as being able to think creatively about how to collate data in a relevant and user friendly way that has the potential to help services at Amex.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility as i have to work with sensitive data. There are various steps that require to be taken when handling this.
Support & Guidance
Despite the fact that the internship virtual, i feel as though there has always been support and guidance as people are very friendly and are always willing to reach out and help. Further, my team provided me with help with my project.
Culture
The general atmosphere has been absolutely amazing. Everyone seems very motivated about work and it is evident that people have a good work/life balance. .
Your Impressions
I have so far enjoyed my internship to a large extent. The project has been really exciting to work on as it is actually meaningful to the business. I really enjoyed the L&D days in the first few weeks, they were really insightful; learning about Amex's business model etc. Furthermore, i think the people are wonderful and friendly. They are always willing to help out!
Yes
The advice I would give is to realize that the internship would actually involve working on real projects that are meaningful and my advice would be to reach out to as many people in the company and connect with them.
