There were one or two talks during the day. When a talk wasn't taking place, I was doing work for my trainee or associate advisors such as drafting supplementary mortgage contracts, updating paperwork and researching projects. I was also able to arrange informal chats with a many colleagues from the firm in different areas to get a better insight into the firm.
Yes. I was able to develop skills such as communication and teamwork. I built my confidence, and was able to learn new professional skills including project management skills, how to draft contracts, the sort of paperwork that is needed for major transactions etc. When I had spare time on my hands, I was also able to work through the Knowledge and Information Toolkits.
Extremely insightful. There were talks by all of the different sectors within BCLP, and we could further arrange talks with individual trainees, associates or partners if we wanted to learn more about them.
Inviting and warm. No one made me feel out of place and my anxiety didn't play up during the scheme. The socials were amazing and fun, and I appreciated the chance to get to know my fellow vac scheme students outside of working hours. We were invited to take part in the weekly netball games, and we got to discuss pro bono and inclusion and diversity is great detail.
I really enjoyed the firm. I felt comfortable with everyone I met, and the team I sat in were welcoming and supportive. I felt like I had contributed to the success of the company by being trusted with actual work for their actual clients, rather than simulated training tasks that I have experienced with other firms. I could really see myself fitting in at BCLP.
Yes
Be yourself! My interviewing partner told me that it isn't about having all the pieces. So long as you have the raw materials, they can sand the edges to where they're needed. Be honest, research the firm and, most importantly, act with confidence, even if that's not how you're feeling internally.
