    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Logged on between 9:30-10am, had various talks or q&a's with an hour for lunch and afternoon break and most afternoons we were on a call with our group to work on our case study project. Our task, as assurance interns, was to look at the impact on a high street retailer of the covid crisis and the risks to our audit process.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • This has made me far more confident, particularly with how well group work can go. My teamwork skills have definitely improved from it too. I've learnt a lot more about what goes on in assurance.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Not massively but we were only there for 2 weeks so they couldn't give us too much as there wasn't time for that level of training. However, in terms of our hypothetical case study project we were given a lot of time just as a team to work on this and create a presentation that was meant to reflect what you would do in the actual job

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • We were given 2 mentors to lead us/ answer any questions for our case study project. We were also allocated 2 buddies from the office and service line we'd applied to who were really great and gave us a lot of information and answered any questions we had. We also had a session speaking to our office managing partner who was really happy to connect on linked in too + help with final interview.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Really great- were given a lot of information on their sustainability initiatives, diversity and inclusion measures/ focuses and the EY foundation (which is their charity which works with young people). They talked about having football teams and various social events/activities but due to covid that wasn't going on at this time. Overall, atmosphere was really friendly and didn't seem hierachal at all.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Really enjoyed it and felt really excited about a potential graduate role. I would have loved it to be in person so I could've had more experience of on the job work but as far as an online internship goes I think they did it really well.

  • 7. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to EY
  • Be yourself! They really appreciate that everyone has their own qualities and strengths and encourage you to use those to your advantage. It is quite a hard, long application process of tests, an assessment centre and interview but prepare, know your stuff about the role you're applying for and EY but don't stress that you have to be a particular type of person to get offered an internship or do a particular course.
