    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The day would begin with a welcome from the summer internship programme team, which ran through the day's agenda. The morning tended to consist of talks from various speakers, including partners. Either the late morning or early afternoon session would be a learning session from an external client, and the remainder of the afternoon was mainly used to work on our case study in groups of up to 10 people.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed many of my existing skills, and I have found the experience invaluable for developing new skills; we had many learning sessions which covered topics such as how to be a highest performing team in the workplace, creating & presenting compelling content, business etiquette, confidence with clients, emotional intelligence and resilience. These sessions will undoubtedly be useful in my final year of Uni and future jobs.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • We didn't work on actual clients during the internship as it was virtual. However, we were given full responsibility to create our own presentation about a case study we were given. We had a mentor to guide us if needed but it was mainly up to the group to decide what should be included in the presentation.

  • We received lots of support, ranging from the summer internship program team who made us feel so welcome and valued. We additionally had a buddy who was an employee at EY who gave us a valuable insight into life at EY. Further, our case study work was supported by a mentor who was incredibly helpful and gave us great tips on how to succeed in our final presentation.

They focus on making everybody feel like they belong, which was something I really appreciated as I was very nervous on my first day of the internship. • After being so apprehensive about the internship, I actually really enjoyed myself and wish it wouldn't have gone so quickly! The welcoming culture, highly informative sessions and the vast network of people you can build is something I am so grateful for and I can't thank the summer internship program team enough for creating such a wonderful experience!

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to EY
  • I would say the most important thing is to be yourself - everyone is valued at EY and so the best thing you can do is genuine and authentic. This is something that was echoed by my buddy and my mentor. I would also ensure that you have knowledge about the service line you applied for as this will be invaluable for interviews.
