Overview
Work in the data science team creating models to help give the company insights. Every day starts with standup, a meeting where every one in the team talks about what we have been working on recently. Most of my day is spent working on the model (programming) however I do have a couple of meetings spread through out the week such as catch-ups with my manager about the work I am doing and catchups with my team where we can discuss and give each other insights on our work.
Skills
Mainly learnt a lot of python programming, especially handling and manipulating data frames and also machine learning methods such as building classifiers, regression models and analyzing them as well.
Responsibilities
Yes I was given a good amount of responsibility. The first few projects I did independently although led by my manager, the last few projects I did I was strongly encouraged to take my own lead on the project such as problem solving and also leading meetings.
Support & Guidance
I received lots of support from my team and my manager, we had set up weekly meetings however I was encouraged to set up my own meeting with member of the team if I ever needed any help. There was also a fair amount of support from HR however there was no company wide support such as mentor schemes or set training schemes.
Culture
In general it was good. My team was very friendly and encouraging, however I can't comment on the whole company as I spent a lot of time working from home and also didn't do much work with the other teams

I enjoyed my placement a lot, I have learnt a tremendous amount and would definitely recommend the company for a placement year
