    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The insight involved a range of different jobs. These centred around making advertisments for BBC and the different shows that would be airing. These would be big projects that were split into smaller tasks and delegated between everyone working on the task. I did have quite a few responsibilities as I was responsible for my own sections of the project; eventhough I did have a lot of support, I was expected to complete this myself at the end of the day.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt many new skills during my time there on the insight. Firstly, I learnt about a range of different programs for video editing. I also learnt how to use them and many transferable skills that applied to most video editing software out there. I also learnt more about working in a team and the separation of jobs. I also learnt what really goes in to advertising and how adverts are created in a way to draw in consumers.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • This insight did somewhat helped me to understand the business and potential roles, specifically in the media and advertising roles. I mainly worked in the advertising team so I got to really understand all the roles in the advertising team at BBC. I also did get to see a lot about different media roles within BBC. It would have been nice to experience more than just advertising so I could get a feel of the whole process.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was very nice and welcoming while I was there. There was a huge push for diversity in the company. This was very much seen in the media aspect of BBC; though diversity in front of the camera is really good and encouraging, it is also important to get diversity behind the camera to get different people's stories told. There were also a lot of charity and sustainability initiatives throughout my time at the company.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really did enjoy the insight a lot. It allowed me to practice video editing which is something that I really enjoy. It also allowed me to meet new people within the team and I really did enjoy meeting them and getting to know them. Furthermore, the insight taught me a lot about advertising which is not an avenue I would have considered before this so this insight was quite eye opening for me which was very good.

  • 7. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC
  • I would definitely tell others that are applying for a job at BBC to do your research beforehand. You don't need to know everything about media or advertising but you should know a few things. Also, you should come with questions to ask at the interview so they know that you are curious and passionate about it. If I was to do the placement again, I would definitely keep a journal and take notes as it may seem easy to remember things at first, but there can be a overload of information.
