I sat in two departments over the three weeks, undertaking trainee tasks and sitting in on departmental and client meetings. We were also given a pro bono task to complete over the three weeks, as well as a group client pitch presentation exercise which we conducted in the final week. We also had many departmental presentations and networking events, as well as social events.
I learnt a lot more about the profession generally. We had a presentation skills session which developed my confidence and ability to present. I also improved my communication skills through communicating with a wide variety of people. I developed my collaboration skills through the various team exercises (pro bono and client pitch exercise). I improved my networking skills also.
We had really informative sessions like a session with Management Committee to understand more the business and the firm specifically.
The culture is very friendly, welcoming, supporting, and non-hierarchical. I was not nervous to speak to Partners. There are various social events which were fun. The firm is massive on D&I and has a lot of groups e.g. BakerEthnicity, BakerWomen. There are lots of volunteering and pro bono opportunities. In general, everyone is lovely.
I really enjoyed the insight - I got such a varied and deep knowledge of the firm. I did some really high-level work which exceeded my expectations.
