    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Leading the artwork process is one of the key responsibilities within my role, this involves localising and finalising packaging for our products in the UK market, communicating with Paris and any countries you may be sharing artworks with. I also pull data for team members using platforms such as Nielsen or Kantar, in order to analyse our performance against competitors and the market. i often build slides for presentations with the data, for company wide meetings.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • i have learnt to analyse data and spot any discrepancies in the numbers. Attention to detail is a skill that has been imperative for me to develop due to the nature of the role, when working on artworks it is important to ensure all details are correct or you risk sending something to print with mistakes. Finally i have improved my organisation and time management skills, in order to juggle all of my tasks whilst sitting under multiple members of the team.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement, from the get go i was responsible for meeting my deadlines, and completing tasks to the correct standard, i was given the responsibility of artworks from my first day, with support available if i needed it. throughout the duration of my placement this responsibility increased, resulting in me being able to lead a huge project towards the end, dealing with multiple external stakeholders and agencies, which was very exciting.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • support was always available throughout my internship if i felt i needed it. i would have regular 1:1's with multiple members of the team every week who would help me prioritise my to do list, give me advise on any projects i was working on at the time and offer guidance on any career questions i may have. however at the same time i was encouraged to be independent and solve my own problems before asking for help, which allowed me to grow my confidence.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • the culture of L'oreal is known to be very social and friendly, however due to Covid's impact on the last year it has been difficult to fully see this. Due to only being in the office for roughly 25% of the year and the office being at 50% capacity at most, it has been difficult to experience and learn the culture. however the culture is very welcoming and makes you feel valued at any level.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have enjoyed my placement and i am very glad that i did it, i think i have grown so much as a person and have benefited massively because of it. i have made great friends and work place relationships. of course because of the nature of the year and spending so much time in lock down times have been very difficult, but indulging in my work was a great distraction and made things easier!

  • Be yourself and be open to learning. every role is different so be open minded when being allocated a role. i would recommend getting involved in any committees or initiatives that you are interested in as it is a great way to get to know people and merge your work with something you are passionate about. be as honest as you can in your application as the people assessing you will be able to tell and it will benefit your application.
