    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • There were multiple 2 hour training sessions into the different areas of RMS (Risk Modelling Services) as well as larger group sessions with everyone on the WiB insight. There was also plenty of opportunity to have 1 to 1 conversations with people at different levels of employment within PwC. I personally got to talk to Directors and Partners as well as people on the Graduate scheme. There was also plenty of opportunities to socialise despite it being only 3 days long. The company offered yoga, a HIIT class and the opportunity to cook with Nadia Hussain!

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learned more about the different areas of RMS and what the role of an actuary would be in each of these areas. I also found out more about career progression from people at different stages of their career. Most of the training was interactive, giving you the opportunity to develop skills for each area, such as the use of excel. There was also the opportunity to develop your interview skills by talking to employees.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • There was a lot of training into the different areas that an actuary works in, with each area being covered in 2 hours. This meant that there was plenty of information available about each area to help you explore which one you would like to go into. Due to the fact that this event was run virtually, it meant that there wasn't the opportunity to shadow people but everyone did their best to explain their day to day job.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The atmosphere was great! Everyone was so friendly and willing to answer all your questions. You got to speak with employees from all area and levels of the firm. They ran a networking event (which was a bit like speed dating!) which allowed you to get to know a lot of different people very quickly. They also ran yoga sessions, a HIIT class and gave us a chance to cook with Nadia Hussain with all expenses paid!

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed this insight! It was very inclusive and informative. I can't believe the support we were offered and the opportunities they gave us despite us only being on an insight week. There was so much information available that I would not have learned if I hadn't been on this week. It confirmed for me that this is a company and an area that I would like to go into. I would definitely recommend!

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC
  • Make sure to do plenty of research into the company and area of work within the company that you would like to go into. It is essential that you find the area that best suits your interests before applying as it comes up in your application process and your insight week is heavily focussed on this. Take every step of the application process seriously as it all counts. The application process is difficult but it is most definitely worth it!
