  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The role involves entering the business at the base level and through managing a store team, gradually gaining an idea of all the skills involved in becoming a full time area manager for Aldi. The second half of the business is more project based and you are responsible for investigating a potential business opportunity and presenting findings back to the operations directors.

  • Mainly people and management skills, as you become responsible for leading a store team of approx. 30 people. Communication, organisation, and time management also become extremely important in the project role as you often work independently and are required to meet deadlines.

  • The Aldi placement throws you straight in to a position of responsibility. You are instantly made to feel like a valuable asset to the business and given autonomy to make decisions, which requires you to be committed and passionate about the role.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • At Aldi, all trainees are given a direct mentor who offers constant support throughout the year. You are also asked to attend regular progress/personnel meetings with operations directors who show a genuine interest in your wellbeing and progression through the placement.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Aldi has a very professional and almost 'old school' business culture. The atmosphere is pleasant and colleagues are supportive however expectations and output are extremely high and it is a very fast paced environment to work in.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • The placement was extremely challenging and there were days that tested my resilience, however in terms of my personal growth, development, and career opportunities I couldn't have asked for a better placement.

  • Make sure you are aware of what you are signing up for as this placement certainly isn't for everyone. Present yourself as someone who can achieve results independently, but also be a team player and offer support and guidance to those around Never be afraid to ask questions as you will gain the most respect by being someone who is willing to learn and challenge themselves.
