    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Area manager shadowing. Store time - training from store assistant up to assistant store manager. Grading during store time alongside training. Area cover - cover an area manager and their four stores. Project work - Christmas trading project, recruitment, warehouse capacity and MUP audit. SOD updates/days out - regular formal meetings where feedback and SMART goals are created for the next rotation.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Lots of responsibility from very early on. High expectations and extremely rewarding. Treated at area managers in training (as if the year is a trial of the area manager graduate scheme itself).

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Assigned a mentor where frequent updates were held and was a vey useful means of asking questions. Direct and personnel leaders offer clarity as to who should be providing which training and when. Much training is guided by the placement student as Aldi encourage you to 'drive your own training'. Very independent and requires drive and passion to succeed.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Conservative and flat organisational business structure. General atmosphere of support but and extremely fast-paced and reactive sector with a tight focus on results.
