    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Insight into the business structure, front, back and middle office of J.P. Morgan. Provided experience to deal with case study scenarios faces in divisions: investment banking, credit risk, wealth management, asset management and whole sale payments. This allowed us to work in a team with other fellow bankers. Team work, commercial acumen, analytical thinking and communication was executed throughout the spring week. Presentations were provided to display which stock price and industry is likely to boom after lockdown.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Developed my skills in communication and pitching an idea. The posed was based upon which stock and industry was likely to boom post-COVID. This developed my time management, to research to a deadline and deliver a succinct proposition of my answer. I also gained new skills in negotiation and look forward in developing this more through case studies in future. Commercial acumen and analytical thinking was further developed when working with the case studies provided.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was great to understand the business from an early insight perspective. This enabled me to see which part of the bank I can fit into with the current skills I have. As a non finance student taking on this spring week, it made me realise that there are still an abundance of roles for non finance background students. The potential roles available showed that I can take part in working in J.P. Morgan.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The general atmosphere showed how much the employees enjoy working at JP Morgan. I saw that collaboration was key inside and out the work place with colleagues. There was times to spend time with one another at and away from the desk to build personal and professional relationships. This also showed that the company culture is fit for all, especially with the range of backgrounds of the colleagues. To see where the employees are from and their expertise demonstrated that there is a taste of cultural variety at J.P. Morgan.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the insight week thoroughly. I found through taking on the insight week that I have both skills that I already have and skills that is needed to be developed in order to be a better employee. I enjoyed the fact that my skill set at the time was challenged through the presentation and deliverance of the case studies, which without this I would not have known my areas of weakness. I enjoyed working with other students from similar backgrounds as myself.
