    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • I participated in the Discover EY - Women in Business insight programme. Hence, it was a one-day event where I learnt about the company's Strategy and Transactions Division, the many teams within it and the work they do specifically, and the employment benefits within EY. There were panel sessions where we were given the opportunity to ask questions and did a case study with one of the consultants.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The case study has developed my skills on analysing problems, and taught me the EY way of solving case studies. Having so many students within the zoom event, I was also given the opportunity to build up my confidence as I could raise any questions I have to the EY employees.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • EY is a large company and consists of many departments and teams. For example, the Strategy and Transactions Division alone already has 3 areas where there are 9 teams altogether. It was an eye-opening experience as I listened to the work that each role entail. Each of the teams has a distinct role in the company which were interdependent yet serves distinct functions.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone was very nice and open to questions. We met the recruitment team, senior leaders and junior members of the company. I could sense that they were all very proud of their work. Gender equality and junior exposure are much emphasised in the firm as well, with a flat structure.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I would love it if we had more time to "discover EY". Nonetheless, it is a very fruitful experience and I was surprised that we had gone through so many events within a day. No matter if it is about the company, the diversity, female empowerment, building a personal brand or the roles within SaT, I really enjoyed my time.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY
  • First, do some research and figure out the path you would want to consider as a future career. EY provides Discover EY programmes for Tax, Audit and Business, and the fast track opportunity is only for the chosen area. Second, I really enjoyed the assessments during the application process, so do relax and just be yourself!
