    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The Talent Engagement Team team is part of the Student Recruitment team at PwC and we lead on a number of national talent programmes. We are responsible for the design and development, recruitment and selection and conversion for all of the following programmes: Summer Internships, Flying Start, Women In Business, Black Talent in Business, Work Placements and Our Insight Week.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes! The team is always busy and working on new projects so it's important to be able to adapt quickly. One of the skills that I have built on the most is my technical knowledge, especially excel, as the technology we use in the team is ever changing. It is also a heavily focused client role as you will be communicating and liaising with students and partner organisations daily.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given a lot of autonomy in my role as the team need you to perform at the same level as the senior associates; this was even more present with working from home for the duration of the pandemic - you have to be able to manage your own time. Working in the Talent Engagement Team also gives you exposure to a wide range of business networks you might not come across otherwise.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • There is always support if you need it! Once you start you get an informal buddy who helps you settle in and a dedicated career coach to help you with your career progression throughout your placement. We have monthly check-in meetings to make sure my workload is manageable and that I can getting enough challenge/stretch in my work as well.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • PwC has a great culture and this has been even more prominent throughout the pandemic. Everyone is extremely approachable and this has made working from home a lot easier. It has been more difficult to socialise with the team as everything has been virtual this year but my team has still made time for monthly virtual socials where we all get together to have a catch up about our lives out of work. There's lots more that PwC offer but most importantly for me, there's been a genuine focus on our mental health this year especially.
