    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As a Business Development Intern, I work on growing the skincare category. Within the Business Development Team, we work to strengthen the relationship between the retailer and supplier, enabling greater collaboration to exchange information, share data and build the growth of the category together. In my role, I work closely with the Commercial and Marketing teams, working on growing the Consumer Product Division skin brands, Garnier and L'Oreal Paris.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed my communication and interpersonal skills as my role involves liaising with many different individuals in different teams and departments as we work together on many projects. My organisation and time management skills have also significantly improved as I have learnt how to manage my workload and set out my day with a clear structure, as well as being able to take initiative in prioritising my work.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a huge amount of responsibility during my placement at L'Oreal, at first this was a little challenging to adjust to, however it has been amazing to gain this experience and be involved in so many projects, with so many different people. It has given me wider exposure to how the business operates and I think it's great that L'Oreal give this autonomy to interns.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support and guidance throughout my placement, there were always multiple people to help when I needed some advice. Especially as I had no direct line manager for 5 months, I had a lot of people to help step in and guide me when I needed it, and the whole team were all very helpful and supportive. This made such a difference and I was very grateful.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • As we joined through COVID-19, this was obviously a difficult experience as everything was virtual. However, the culture is great at L'Oreal and everyone is so friendly, approachable and positive. Additionally, the company accommodated and supported all employees during these difficult times COVID brought by giving staff flexible working, with a huge focus on mental health and wellbeing, which I think is very important.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to L'Oreal
  • I would recommend doing your research, L'Oreal is a large, corporate business with lots of aspects to it, so make sure you understand and learn all about what they do and what they offer. I would emphasise and show your passion and interest in not just working at L'Oreal but the role specifically too. Have questions to ask the interviewer too as this shows eagerness to learn and wanting to know more.
