My role covers two areas, Supply Chain (Operations) and Sustainability. Within Supply Chain, I am responsible for creating supply chain reports and rationalise SKU’s in order to reduce costs but remain competitive. Within sustainability, I am responsible for, practical work i.e. production line efficiency, measurement, 5S, leading sustainability report meetings, regulating sustainability actions taken by multiple departments. Day-to-day, my tasks will depend on the project/s I am undertaking at that time.
To highlight some of the skills I have developed: use of excel with complex functions, commercial awareness and future targets of the FMCG industry, people skills working alongside a large production team, presentation skills through taking part in Kaizen events and site wide team brief, prioritising tasks based on importance and urgency, independence as I was given complete ownership of projects assigned to me.
My team consisted of one other member, my manager. Thus, I was given a good amount of responsibility whether it was on repeating monthly tasks or one-off projects. The range of assignments allowed me to work with other departments which increased my awareness and understanding of how Church and Dwight operates.
During my internship I had weekly meetings with my manager to catch up, talk about any issues, update on projects etc. But, I was able to reach out to my manager any time as well and he would give his undivided attention and support me. Working with other departments, I was also met with support and guidance which was amazing as it helped me to complete projects/assignments successfully.
Church Dwight express their culture to be an inclusive and collaborative environment. This is evident throughout the company, from the US headquarters to C+D manufacturers across the world. C+D culture is ingrained in each departmental area thus creating a positive, inspirational, open communication and supportive environment. The general atmosphere in my office was relaxed and quiet which helped to focus on individual work.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship. It has been such an insightful experience into the FMCG manufacturing industry. I will miss my colleagues and work. In such a short time, I have learnt a lot which I hope to carry and build on in my next position.
To others applying to C+D, I would advise to show that you are motivated, innovative and curios to learn and explore a variety of supply chain areas. C+D values people whom value teamwork, diversity and integrity.
