    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • For the first six months of my placement, I supported several Senior Auditors with a range of risk focused internal audits. As a means of general practice, I would be on a different audit each week. My tasks involved attending meetings with the Client and the auditor to take notes, undertaking various testing and writing up my findings. However, I am now planning and undertaking my own audits.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt and developed a variety of skills over the duration of my placement at RSM, most noticeably my confidence and communication. With the whole of my placement being undertaken remotely, effective communication was essential in order to get things done. In terms of my confidence, prior to joining RSM I had a massive fear of public speaking, this fear has now been lessened with me presenting to clients on a weekly basis.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes after learning the ropes in the first six months, I was assigned my own audits for a series of RSM's clients. I was initially really nervous for my first audit, but with me receiving so much guidance and support from my team, all of my worries were eventually put to rest.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received immense support and guidance from both my Line Manager and team throughout the duration of my placement. Once I accepted my offer at RSM, I was assigned a buddy who answered all of the questions and queries I had prior to my start date, which I found really helpful. My first two months were also compromised of a range of virtual training.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I really liked the company culture, our CEO held quarterly meetings with us and updated us on the company's progress, to make sure all employees were kept in the loop. The Partner of our office also ensured that we had a series of virtual team socials to give us the opportunity to still interact with one another despite us not being able to meet in person, which was really beneficial for me with me starting remotely.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at RSM, and honestly cannot recommend the company enough. What made my experience was the team I worked with, from day one they made me feel so welcome and kept in regular contact with me to see how I was finding my time at RSM. I loved the fact that no working week was the same, and that I was exposed to a great range of areas both non-financial and financial.

  • 7. Would you recommend RSM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to RSM
  • My application process compromised of an online application form, video interview, and assessment centre. My advice is to just be yourself, RSM is a very down to earth company which is looking for bright, friendly and social individuals to join its team's, they don't just value your education but your hobbies and interests as well.
