    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The programme lasted 4 days. There were talks about the work that Rothschild do in Global Advisory and also about the culture at the firm, from balance and inclusion to the Rothschild archives. We also had the opportunity to network with an analyst/associate from global advisory alongside our assigned buddy. Lastly, throughout the week, we worked on a presentation which we presented at the end to senior staff.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Definitely learnt how to ask better questions, to work well in a team on an investment banking related project, and to network. There were also talks on presenting skills and how to do well in assessment centres which also helped in looking out for things that will make you more successful at interview.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was great. Rothschild has a rich culture, based in its long and impressive history. This culture seems to have sustained throughout the firm's existence through their key values which seem to still resonate with the people that work there. It was so useful to understand what exactly they do in GA, and to see the pipeline of recruitment clearly laid out for us.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Great. As mentioned, their culture is rich and based in their values which have spanned the firm's history. Admittedly, you will hear that it is hard to work in investment banking, and the analysts did confirm this too, but the people and the culture make that easier, which is something that came up repeatedly.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was great. The project was a really great way of learning about the sorts of things you would do in investment banking, the talks were all engaging, the analysts/associates were all so kind and happy to talk to you and answer all silly questions. All in all it is a really valuable insight programme.
