    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • We explored the firm and listen to different analysts, associates, VPs, Mds speak about their experience of Rothschild and the firm's culture, as well as networking opportunities and a learning session with Fitch which explored technicals and useful items for future interview, as well as an AC workshop. This explored cover letter dos and dont as well as what we could expect in any AC, and what we should prepare as well as the value of network

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt more about valuation methodologies as well as the different employees and how to network with them. The technical skills were useful to learn as well as the group project, where I learnt how to work with a team and better achieve a communal project with the group in mind instead of your own work which was fun. This included research skills, going through large documents to extract useful information for our project

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was good, getting an awareness of the different teams and the culture between them. Learning about wealth management in particular as its not something I considered previously, and to be honest, its not something Ill go into but it was still good to get that awareness as well as non M&A advisory such as debt and restructuring. understanding the internship route was useful as well as the general structure and division you enter

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Culture was really helpful, everyone was happy to speak and even in their own time which was nice. Good european roots, with a fantastic history as well as establishment as a firm which valued trust and integrity. Rothschild has good connections and the seniors seemed to be focused on relationship building and genuinely offering quality advice opposed to a balance sheet which was interesting, and good professional standards with smiles too so it felt welcoming.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed thoroughly as I wanted a genuine insight into the career and there was a lot of honesty. Honesty is good as I am genuinely trying to see my fit, which I now know is good, but there are still longer hours than a standard good and a little more expected as well as learning that the steep learning curve is an attraction for quite a few people including me. Good balance of interactive and learning

  • 7. Would you recommend Rothschild & Co to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rothschild & Co
  • Know the culture and definitely stay in contact with the employees. Know what they stand for and their focus on good quality advisory as well as that the business model is distinct from BB banks as they do not have a balance sheet so really have a reputation to uphold, as well as what they are proud of as a firm (leading by deals, their friendly and helpful culture, history and the work that they do)
