    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • I attended panel sessions with senior employees and graduates every day with an afternoon dedicated to training the cohort on the structure of the financial market and commercial awareness. I learnt more about the different roles available and the culture at UBS.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I definitely learnt more about financial skills and the different areas within UBS, such as operations, research and risk. There were also opportunities to network with the cohort and employees and this was certainly a way to build confidence.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Very useful, all the jargon was explained and the next steps, ranging from the summer internship, industrial placement and graduate placement, were all explained clearly and we were given the opportunity to network with analysts who had already been on these programmes.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Very friendly when answering our questions. HR got involved in our social event and listening to the diversity initiatives and groups, such as Mosaic, was really interesting. At the end of the week, we partook in a charity event for pensioners and got an insight into the volunteering UBS does for a local primary school.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the insight, I definitely learnt a lot more about UBS and finance, especially areas I did not have much knowledge about before (Asset and Wealth Management). Everyone was so passionate and easy to approach with questions, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone interested in finance. Although it was virtual, and I would have wanted to go to the office, I still had a brilliant time thanks to the busy schedule.

  • 7. Would you recommend UBS to a friend?

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS
  • Apply early, do your research into the company, your business area and be commercially aware. They provide you with a training session so do not be too worried about the financial terminology. Be open to all different business areas and ask as many questions as possible - there are no 'silly questions'.
